Another MMO on the horizon
Sign ups have become available for Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine, a free-to-play MMORPG hosted by Aeria games (also home to Shaiya, Last Chaos, Dream of Mirror Online.) You can go sign up for closed beta here.
I have mixed feelings about free-to-play MMOs; a lot I end up playing for a few weeks and then ditch. They just don’t seem to hold my interest as long as a paid MMO like World of Warcraft seems to do. But here, Aeria’s offering a very tempting bait: a game in the Shin Megami Tensei series, which has been purely fantastic.
Given the past performance of Shin Megami Tensei games, I have high hopes for Imagine. Nonetheless, given that its’ a free to play game, I also have my doubts. Will the gameplay and immersion be enough? Will it be compelling enough to want to pay for it (ala Dungeon Runners)? Only testing and time will tell, but let’s hope they give the game justice.
